Sedrow Fire Engineering is led by its two founding directors, Henry Wilkinson and Steven Ellis. Both are highly qualified and experienced fire engineers who have worked across all sectors in the built environment.
Henry Wilkinson
MEng CEng MIFireE
Henry is a Chartered Fire Engineer.
- Two decades of experience in fire engineering.
- Ten years as a director.
- He has been the lead fire engineer on projects in every sector in the built environment.
His experience covers high-rise residential buildings, some exceeding 40-storeys, schools, universities, healthcare, office buildings, sports stadia, leisure and entertainment venues and more. He has particular expertise in shopping centres, dealing with complex evacuation and smoke modelling challenges. He been heavily involved in the ongoing development of many of the largest shopping centres across the UK.
Henry’s experience and knowledge extends across the fire engineering discipline. He has an in-depth and detailed understanding of standards and regulations, but also why those standards and regulations apply. This allows him to develop innovative fire engineering designs without compromising on the standard of safety.
Through his involvement in the industry and ongoing continuing professional development (CPD), Henry keeps up-to-date with all regulatory changes. He has guided design teams and clients through the Gateway processes for the Building Safety Act and is familiar with the challenges involved.
While not at work, Henry enjoys playing golf (badly), walking, cycling, and spending time with his three sons.
Steven Ellis

Steven is an accomplished fire engineer, delivering safe, efficient, and innovative solutions for some of the UK’s most complex and iconic projects. Steven brings both technical expertise and a practical, client-focused approach to every project.
Steven has extensive experience across a wide range of sectors, including:
- Residential: High-rise towers (including 100m+), Higher Risk Buildings [HRBs] subject to the Building Safety Act and Gateway process, student accommodation, duplexes, triplexes, co-living, extra care, care homes, and external wall remediation.
- Education & Commercial: Schools (including SEND), colleges, university developments, offices (including 200m+), retail, shopping centres, leisure, warehouses, hotels and mixed-use developments.
- Specialist & Complex Projects: Hospitals, prisons, historic buildings and conversions.
Steven’s strong technical background allows him to deliver innovative solutions where standard compliance may be overly restrictive. His skills include:
- Computational fluid dynamics [CFD] and smoke control calculations.
- Smoke Control Systems (including pressurisation).
- Evacuation modelling.
- Complex external fire spread risk assessments.
- Structural fire protection risk assessments.
By combining an in-depth knowledge of the Building Regulations and code guidance, with advanced engineering methods, Steven helps clients achieve safety and compliance, whilst maximising design flexibility and efficiency.
In his free time, Steven enjoys playing pool, cycling, walking, badminton, baking, and DIY*
